One year ago, we launched Suncoast Searchlight with an ambitious goal — to build
the kind of newsroom our community deserves. A newsroom that takes the time to
investigate complex issues, explain how government decisions affect everyday lives,
and produce journalism that is accurate, fair, and independent.
We believed our region wanted reporting that went beyond the headlines. Since
then, we’ve seen that belief affirmed.
In the past year, we've published nearly 200 stories and fact briefs, collaborated with
other news organizations on impactful reporting and created new ways for residents
to engage with journalists. Our work has been republished more than 1,000 times,
helping strengthen local news across Florida while earning recognition from state and
national journalism organizations.
Most encouraging, though, has been the community’s response. Every subscriber,
donor, news tip and shared story has reinforced that independent, public-service
journalism matters.
As we begin our second year, we’ll continue growing our newsroom, expanding our
reach and working alongside other media organizations to strengthen local journalism
across the Suncoast.
To our readers, donors, volunteers, media collaborators, foundation partners and friends:
Thank you. Your support has helped build more than a newsroom. Together, we’re
building a stronger, more informed community.
