The city of Sarasota updated its parking rules on June 29, extending paid hours and upping fines.
Paid hours for street parking have been extended to 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, paid street parking enforcement begins at 1 p.m.
Parking garages and city lots are paid 24 hours, with free parking from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays. Street and garage parking are still free on holidays.
Previous paid hours for street parking were Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and free on Sundays and holidays.
All fines will be increased by $5. This means a time restriction violation or an unpaid meter will now cost $30, and an expired registration, parking outside a marked space or committing a safety violation like parking in a fire lane will each cost $40.
