Record-holding agency: Florida Office of the Attorney General
Date requested: Sept. 24
Outcome: Fee of $7,381.08 charged, request pending

In the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination Sept. 10, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced a tip line on Sept. 22 called the “Combat Violent Extremism Portal.” In the portal, tipsters are reminded that “documents and attachments submitted to this agency are subject to public inspection pursuant to Chapter 119, Florida Statutes,” and not to include sensitive personal information. When we requested all submissions to the portal, the agency told us they had identified 6,470 pages of materials for us – but quoted an upfront fee of $7,281.08. We’ve reminded them that the submissions are, according to their own office, public records and will keep you updated.
